Ice climbing on 215 is as easy as it gets. Roadside cragging at it’s best. The ice forms on a road cut and there is easy assess from either end of the cliff to hang a top rope. This is a great place to get a pump, practice technique or learn how to climb ice. If you do go climbing here, please be mindful of driver rubber necking as they come by and don’t park along the cliff. Drop the gear off and park the car, it’s only a short walk to the parking lot.
Whitesides is a step up in ice climbing. When conditions are good, Whitesides has some excellent multipitch ice climbing opportunities for all levels and some challenging single pitch leads. It is home to the most famous ice climbing gem in the Tar Heel State, Starshine WI4.
